Guidelines for associate editors
More than 90 associate editors are involved in the editorial process of the OENO One journal, covering the distincts scopes as expert of the field of research.

ROLE OF THE ASSOCIATE EDITOR
1. Make the editorial decision
The Associate Editor leads the peer-review process in blind from its assignment in submission to copyediting and makes the final editorial decision. The latter are based on the scientific quality of the research presented in the article as well as the originality and the interest of the topic. Editorial decisions need to be made on a minimum of two reviews and justified to the authors.
The Associate Editors have the power over editorial decisions for the articles they handle. However, they are invited to contact the EiC in charge for a second opinion if they need it or in case of doubt about scientific matters. In addition, the editorial team is there to assist them with technical features throughout the process.
2. Guarantee the integrity of the review procees
The Associate Editor monitor the reviewers and author submissions in due time. Reviewers must be contacted at a reasonable frequency to not to overload any of them. The editorial timeline is available in the Associate Editor guide (to download at the end of the page).
The Associate Editor guarantees the integrity of the peer-review process: ensure anonymity of reviewers to the authors, avoid conflicts of interest, comply with the rules of ethical conduct, plagiarism and AI detetection, etc.
As single-blind review process, the identity of the reviewers is not revealed to the authors nor between reviewers. The Associate Editors have the responsibility to ensure that all the documents sent to the authors are anonymous and must not contain any reviewers’ names. We ask to our editors a specific vigilance on this matter. Technical guidance is available throughout the process, below and on the ‘How to submit a review on OJS’ page.
3. Communicate
The Editors-in-Chief recommend that each Associate Editor handles 3 to 5 articles per year if possible. The assignment is made according to the article's topic and their expertise in the relevant research fields.
The Associate Editor must be sure that he/she can handle the article in compliance with the timeline and editorial rules before accepting the role. Any potential conflict of interest have to be disclosed any potential conflict to the Editors-in-Chief.
For those reasons, communication with the participants involved on the article, especially in case of difficulties or unavailability, remains important to ensure a smooth process. Any correspondence has to be carried out through the OJS platform for traceability.
The whole editorial process is conducted under human supervision by the editors and staff with the help of the OJS system tool and the Compilatio software. A remote training about the role is provided yearly.
As ambassadors of IVES, Associate Editors are invited to the yearly editorial board meeting in order to participate in the OENO One editorial policy.
4. About Special Issues
Every year, OENO One publishes 1 to 3 Special Issues in cooperation with some specific conferences and with a specific timeline.
The Editorial Board members can be invited to participate in a specific editorial process as Guest Editors.
